Winslow Winter Clinic '06
It's official, we are underway! Confirmation has
been made with all the coaches that will be
present, they include, Marc Van Arsdale, Guy Van
Arsdale, Max Van Arsdale, Owen Van Arsdale,Todd
Cavallaro and others. This endeavor will be
different from most because the participants will
be taught DIRECTLY by these coaches. The clinic
will be held at the Tempe Sports Complex with
plenty of room for group and individual
instruction and games. This is a "must attend
function" for all young goalies as they will be
instructed, individually by Guy Van Arsdale,
goalie and defense coach for the Penn State.
Offense will be handled by Marc of the Virginia
Cavaliers and Todd of the PENN (IVY) Quakers.
Max and Owen will co-instruct for additional one-
on-one coaching. I had the opportunity to watch
Owen, Marc and Max teach at Coach Starsia's camp
in Va this summer, this is world class
instruction. The dates will be December 28,
29 , this is a Thursday, Friday combination
designed to not interfere with holiday weekend
plans. We will cap the enrollement to first 100
players in the 4th, 5th, 6th grades and JRHS.
Because of the NCAA recruiting rules and our
dates for this clinic, high school players are
inelligible for this clinic. We will encourage
all coaches of players enrolled in this clinic to
interact and participate with the Van Arsdales
and Coach Cav, this will be a coaches' clinic as
well. Q&A at lunch time will offer insight to the
training and teaching philosophies of coaches
from three of the best collegiate programs on the
east coast. The Arizona Sting will be
represented by Scott Schiff, in addition to other
guest speakers. Clinic pinnies will be provided
with other gifts. Lax Locker, our co-sponsor,
will have camp specific discount coupons for all
participants, a club sponsored camp store will
also be available. For more information or to be
included on our clinic mailing list, please
contact Coach Gordon Beyer at
jawswithpaws@yahoo.com.

Winter Camp in Phoenix
In the works is a rather big step for a small
club. Not nearly all the details are hammered
out, however, we are looking, very seriously, at
hosting a camp in the Phoenix area this Winter
Break. Among the guests will be, Marc Van
Arsdale, offensive co-ordinator for 2006 NCAA Div
I Virginia Cavaliers and himself an All-American
attackman at Hobart. Guy Van Arsdale, defensive
co-ordinator for Penn State University and All-
Ammerican Goalie for Hobart. Max Van Arsdale,
rising Junior attackman for PSU and cousin Owen
Van Arsdale of St. Annes' in Charlottesville, Va,
a youth lacrosse specialist. Additional coaches
will be added as they sign on with us, check this
website to stay current. Entry Fees will be
$150.00 for three training sessions over two days
with age appropriate games to commence after
lunch on day two. There will be give-aways,
raffles and other prizes. We hope to hold
enrollment to only 100 players to maximize player
to coach ratios. Prerequisites will include:
all the equipment neccesary to play lacrosse
supplied by the participant AND proof of CURRENT
US Lacrosse memebership. A USL booth may or may
not be available, that is yet to be
determined.Contact Coach Gordon Beyer at 928 289
0211 for more details. Further information will
arrive in the form of website publications and
flyers.

Grave's Mountain Lacrosse Camp
I had the fantastic opportunity to escort two of
Winslow's players to the Graves' Mountain
Lacrosse Camp in Syria, Virginia. Kurt did well
with only 13 months of lacrosse under his belt
and T-Muny found his new home, The Cage! Many
thanks to "Team Van Arsdale"; Marc, Owen, Max and
Papa Van, an experience I will draw from for
years to come.

In the beginning....
April 2005, Kurt asked me what ' the funny poles'
on the wall in the den were. June 2005, at the
conclusion of our first camp at Northern Arizona
University, Todd Cavallero told Rick Lindsay and
I to ' just start, somewhere, anywhere, just
start'. Fast forward to June 2006, with much
influence from Todd Cavallero, Albin Haglund,
Rich McAbee and support from assistant coaches
Mitty Smith and Mike Rivera,Sr. and coach /
academic advisor Pam Van Arsdale, we are on our
way to another succesful youth program in
Winslow, Arizona.
